The Cater Museum is looking for enthusiastic Trustees with drive and energy to ensure the transformation of the Museum into the thriving community hub it has the potential to be.

Happy to say we have recruited a Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer and a Health and Safety/Human Resources Trustee. We still have some roles to fill though!

What will you be doing?

The Cater Museum is a small museum with big ambitions! We are looking for committed individuals from a variety of backgrounds who are eager to share their knowledge, time and expertise. Being a trustee of The Cater Museum would mean making decisions that would impact the visitors, our community and museum personnel. Trustees would be required to use their expertise to support the strategic development of the museum.

All Trustees of The Cater Museum would be expected to:

  • Attend meetings and appointments fully prepared and ready to engage in the decision making process
  • Act with unity to achieve the museum’s strategic goals
  • Respect the organisation’s confidentiality
  • Have a good and up-to-date knowledge of the museum, how it operates and the environment it operates in.
  • Engage in project work and working parties, when the need arises.

In addition to the above, Trustees commit to serving a term of three years, which can be renewed.

The Cater Museum’s Board meets a maximum of 6 times a year, with the meetings lasting between 2 and 3 hours.

We are looking for a commitment of 1-2 hours per week (although more would be welcome!)

Who are we looking for?

IT Trustee

The Cater Museum is hoping to find a IT trustee to help develop how The Cater Museum uses technology, to drive forward change and to keep us up to date in this fast paced sector. While it is not essential, we are especially keen to find someone interested in developing our fledgling Raspberry Pi projects and ideas.

The following skills are essential to the role:

  • IT strategy
  • IT project management
  • Knowledge of network and system development

The following skills/interests are desired:

  • Computer support
  • Database management
  • Software development
  • Data protection knowledge
  • Raspberry Pi knowledge
  • An interest in museums/heritage

Marketing and Income Generation Trustee

The Cater Museum is hoping to find a marketing and income generation trustee to help understand and expand our audience, identify funding opportunities and increase the museum’s profile.

The following skills are essential to the role:

  • Digital strategy
  • Marketing strategy
  • Fundraising strategy

The following skills/interests are desired:

  • Experience of researching funding opportunities and writing grant proposals
  • Knowledge of market research and audience development
  • An interest in museums/heritage

The Cater Museum is entering an exciting period of transformation and these roles are vital in helping to rejuvenate the museum. With your skills and expertise you will aid the museum’s development and create a better future for the museum, our users and the community. A more resilient board will open up funding opportunities for the museum to begin interesting projects, engage new audiences and improve our services.
